‘We do not ask that you resign, we demand it’. These were the words reputedly uttered by the Viking Wheelers Chairman Ramsey Quayle at the 2nd AGM of that club in 1933. The confrontation that had led to these harsh words split the club down the middle and the aggrieved element promptly resigned, called a meeting and the Ellan Vannin Cycling Club was born. To condense the history of the Club into a few lines would not do it or its members justice and we can only mention briefly some of the highlights of the past 90+ years.

The thirties saw the emergence of the Vannin as a racing force to be reckoned with and the winner of the Club’s initial racing promotion on Easter Monday 1934 was a young tearaway called Bobby Callister. Bobby went on to finish in all four pre-war Manx International races and was still Club President, when he passed away, well into his eighties.
