Steve Shimmin from SAS Events has issued the following:
Thanks for a great turnout tonight. A full field on the road, a full turnout of marshals and some hardy spectators at a damp but relatively warm Jurby.
Congratulations to Les Corran (Team Manx Telecom) who takes his maiden victory by 0.1 secs, edging out youngster Nathan Hinks (Royal London 360) and Julian Martin (Team Manx Telecom) in the sprint . Great racing guys well done!
Team Raleigh professional Mark Christian and the rest of the scratch group were handicapped out of it tonight but their time will come as it will for the ‘middle groups’ who came in 52 seconds behind the lead group of newcomers.
It’s heartening to see so many newcomers to the sport, with more on the side lines who were marshalling tonight.
Thanks to Andy Roche, Rob Holden and Rob Dooley for providing coaching before the race with instructions and tips and then during the race mentoring the groups on the road. Rochie was breathing pretty hard at the end guys! The newcomers group was well drilled and rode a well thought out race, working together to keep the ‘break away’ until the final half mile where all camaraderie was swept aside in the bid for glory!
We have new competition within the Bikestyle Series this year; the Jurby Lap record! £50 prize for the fastest lap recorded during the series!! Fastest lap tonight was Jake Kelly at 13 mins 50.998 secs. It’s up for grabs folks, I know there were some seriously faster laps last year! This means that we should have a sprint in the scratch group every lap! There’s no excuses and no hiding from the electronic timing!
Thanks to the motorcycle escorts Rich and Mike provided by Bikestyle, Lead Car drivers Ja Cockram and Gary Mazzone, St John Ambulance ( jerry Jones) and Manx Timing Solutions for the results.
Remember to enter the Microgaming Lighthouses Challenge if you can. Let’s make a difference for Hospice and Team IOM Cycling. The feed stations will be very well stocked thanks to Ramsey Bakery!
